This coming fall, on Oct. 07, 2023, Shawnee, OK is set to hold its annual Scarecrow Festival at the City Hall Parking Lot from 9:00 to 11:30 in the morning. Shawnee’s origins have been traced as coming from the early 19th century Native Americans who inhabited the land located at the south of Kansas River. In the 1850’s, the community was known as Gum Springs and was recognized as the capital and home of the first legislature of Kansas. However, during the American Civil War, William Clarke Quantrill, a Confederate guerrilla leader and a known mass murderer had looted and ravaged the town.

Later, during the aftermath of the civil war, and between the late 19th and 20th centuries, strong and powerfully-built immigrant farmers helped rebuild the town and called it Shawnee.

Today, no other town in Kansas, Oklahoma has a richer history than Shawnee. The town is in fact filled with monuments and statues such as the life-size statue of Chief Charlie Bluejacket located in the northeast corner of Cody and Johnson Drive. Builders + Backers Soon to Launch Community Growth Program in Oklahoma City

The Community Growth Program created and managed by Builders + Backers in collaboration with Heartland Forward, will be launching soon in Oklahoma City. According to Greater Oklahoma City Chamber Program Manager for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Evan Fay, 10 Oklahomans with entrepreneurial ideas will be selected to join the Idea Accelerator Builder Bootcamp. Selected participants will be referred to as Builders upon joining a boot camp that shows showing how to put into action and test business idea as a way to encourage and empower them once they start their business.

In going forward with the Community Growth Program, the 501c3 organization Heartland Forward funded by the Walton Foundation, will provide $50,000 to Oklahoma City Chamber. The latter will in turn award a $5,000 Pebble Grant to each of the 10 Builders, which they will use in kickstarting a business based on their respective innovative idea.

The Idea Accelerator Builder Bootcamp is slated to begin its first iteration in March 2022, while Heartland Forward is already accepting applications up to Dec. 12, for the first 10 Oklahoma City group of Builder participants.

Who Can Apply for the Program

While Builders + Backers and Heartland Forward will determine who among the Builder applicants will be selected, The Inasmuch Foundation and The Chamber are in some ways involved in the selection process. Fay said they will work with universities, churches, neighborhood nonprofits, and with all types of organizations, as no boundaries will be drawn in endorsing a good candidate for this program.

Factory Obscura Discusses with OK City Council about Offers to Buy or Lease Norman Property

Get rid of the clutter

All those piles of paper lying all over your desk make you look not only disorganized but also stressed and maybe even overwhelmed. Although they don’t have to be archived vertically right away, you can sort and organize them in, for example, folders on your desk or somewhere else hidden from view. The only paperwork on your desk should really only be the papers directly related to your current job. If you don’t find any other tip helpful, do this one. You will really notice a huge improvement in your productivity once the clutter/distraction is gone

Invest in a high-quality comfortable chair

When you’re forced to be chained to your desk, you want to feel comfortable. If you’re constantly fidgeting because you don’t feel comfortable in your chair, you’ll be distracted and become less observant. Most employers really want to create a pleasant workplace for their employees, so don’t hesitate to request a nice office chair, for example. And if that doesn’t work, you can always buy one yourself. Go to an office supply store and try out all the chairs to find one you like. Don’t just pick what’s on sale or what looks comfortable. Try it before you buy it! It really is an investment that comes to you.

Get a good laptop or desktop and screen

Especially for the self-employed among us who do not get a laptop for use from the business. The laptop is by far the most popular, but a good (mini) desktop can certainly come in handy. Make sure it contains a fast SSD so that you can switch very quickly. An i5 processor is more than enough for most office professions to run different programs side by side. I myself mounted a mini desktop on the back of a 34” screen. Works perfectly and it’s so much nicer to work with a large screen. Another method is that you put two screens next to each other. This saves you so much more time, leaving you time for other important things. Buy a small fan. Office buildings with recirculated air can become stuffy and old. Combat that with a small fan on your desk that ensures that the air in your workspace (including at home) continues to circulate.

Go green

By this, I do not mean that you should invest in biodegradable or recycled materials. I mean, add some greenery to your workspace in the form of plants. And fake plants, that’s certainly not what we’re going for. Instead, pick up only real, live, oxygen-generating plants. It helps with the stale air problem, but it also helps to liven things up and make it a more inviting space.

Adjust your lighting

Is it too bright or insufficiently bright? Adding a desk lamp to your work area is a simple way to increase the amount of light in your workspace. If you don’t have your own office or work from home, the darkening can be more difficult, but if you do and prefer the darkness, go ahead and turn off the lights.

Add some noise or noise

Working in a completely quiet environment can be quite distracting for some people (for me, for example), so adding a little “noise” can help. The kind of “noise” you want to add depends entirely on your own taste. Some people may benefit from music while others may enjoy the simplicity of such a desktop water fountain and the relaxing sound of running water.

Personalize your space

Could a stranger, looking at your work area, find out something about you? Doesn’t it have a personal touch? If so, maybe you could spice it up a bit to feel more at home. Family photos are a big personal item that you’ll find on many people’s desktops, but there are many other ways you can personalize your space. Swap that boring desk calendar for one with a little more flair, buy some colorful paper clips and a fun mouse pad, or stick your favorite comic strip on the wall. The possibilities are endless.

The Rise of Kitchen Cabinet Demand

According to a recent study on the cabinets industry, the demand for custom kitchen cabinets, with unit demand totaling 101.8 million, is projected to rise 4.6% annually to $17.3 billion in 2023.

 

In line with the research firm, gains are going to be supported by: homeowner interest in installing more and bigger cabinets to produce additional storage space; design trends, like islands and counter-style seating, which incorporate more cabinets into residential kitchens; and manufacturer efforts to incorporate more amenities into cabinets, like LED lighting, pull-out shelves, and racks, that help boost the typical sale price.

 

As consumers increasingly choose these cabinets, tall and wall cabinets will post the more rapid demand gains to produce increased cupboard space rather than such options as open shelving and racks, although base cabinets account for the most important share of inner circle demand.

 

By 2023, demand for tall cabinets is seen to grow 5.0% annually to $2.8 billion, Freedonia projects. Demand for tall cabinets is going to be boosted by consumer desire for more space for storing food and little appliances, and to make visual contrasts to base and wall cabinets in kitchens.
