What makes it so special?
It was a real lucky find. A 1997 first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone made a lot of money for a man in the UK version of Bares for Rares. A whopping 28,000 British pounds (the equivalent of 33,000 euros) changed hands for a book that has a few “quirks” and is therefore so incredibly valuable.
The book that book shareholder Jim Spencer wanted to sell on the show “Bargain Hunt” was really tough. It belongs to the first edition, of which only 500 copies were printed in 1997. But what else makes the book so special and valuable? The word “Philosopher” is misrepresented on the back of the cover. The English word for magic wand is doubled on one page, and the author’s name is also wrong. At that time, JK Rowling was still using her first name: The book information, therefore, says, Joanne K. Rowling. According to the British Independent, a sticker from a library in Staffordshire was discovered on the cover of the book.
Book shareholder Spencer has now declared his luck with the BBC. Spencer found the book on a client when he was asked to estimate the value books on a client – three boxes in total. And there he found the Harry Potter books. Spencer’s client, who can now look forward to the mega-sum, has big plans for the money. The anonymous buyer wants to upgrade his bathroom. The seller was quoted on the show as saying that he did not expect the book to bring so much money. The
“Harry Potter” series by JK Rowling is one of the most successful books of all time. In total, more than 500 million copies of the stories about the young magician were sold worldwide from the first to the last volume. They made JK Rowling one of Britain’s richest women and the anonymous book owner a happy seller who could collect 33,000 euros.
